Villages were deserted, they were deserted in Israel, until I, Deborah, arose, a mother in Israel - Judges 5:7
The first word that comes to mind when we think of Mom is Sacrifice, unconditional sacrifice without any expectation and without anyone asking. For a mother, its just spontaneous. Yet, God says, in Isaiah 49:15 Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.
God compliments a mother indeed by asking, 'Can a women really forget her nursing child?' Motherhood is not just physical but a wholesome transformation of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and everything. Her whole life has changed and there is no way she can just forget about it.
While that's something to rejoice and celebrate, as Creator, God knows humanity more than anyone else. The verse continues 'surely they may forget, Yet, I will not forget you' to embrace those who are hurting on this day. In a world that fancies and commercializes Mother's day or any day for that matter, people who are hurting this day may slip our mind, but never in God's mind/heart.
Regardless of your state of mind, rejoicing/mourning today, truth is, God's love supersedes, overwhelms, outweighs any love this world can offer, including that of a mother. Either end of life in young age/well aged or maybe your mother deserted you at a young age or maybe you had a difficult mother to grow up with or may be your mom is struggling to hold on... No matter what, even when you do not feel the love of a mother around you this day, there is a God who holds not only you but your Mom too in his heart and loves you unconditionally, sacrificially, always and always!
Three aspects of Deborah's life: Mother, Prophetess and Warrior/Leader! Moms, would you reflect on this day, your day, which of these aspects you exemplify already and where you want to grow?
Deborah not just arose as a Mother but as a Prophetess with vision, a spiritual vision for her children AKA the nation of Israel. When the whole nation lacked passion for the Lord, she arose as a passionate visionary to redeem the land, her people for the Lord.
Mom, what is your spiritual vision for your children today? Does that supersede the life/career desire you have for them?
Deborah arose as a Leader/Warrior in a time and age when women were not in any form of leadership in any area of life. With roaring passion, she arose for the Lion of Judah!
What is your battle for your children today? Is your battle for their soul deeper than your struggle to just keep up their schedule/activities?
With Prophetic Vision, Passionate Courage and Heart of a Mother, Deborah arose to turn a wandering nation back to the Lord!
Mom, is it time for you to arise and shine for the Lord?
You may have the Heart of a Mother but do you feel feeble in Vision or Passion to raise up a Godly generation? Lion of Judah, tells you today, 'I will neither leave you nor forsake you' and 'with Jesus all things are possible'
Mom, would you take HIS hand today? Dad, would you join hands with Mom in this battle for the family! When we rise up for the Lord, victory is ours as the battle belongs to HIM.
Blessings for the day and week ahead!
