but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end - Hebrews 3:6

Upon return from overseas travel, two Home Dedications/Blessings were on my schedule just few days apart. So, the idea of a dwelling/house/home is on my mind quite a bit this week and here you go...

We all have seen Mobile homes, built on a portable platform that can be hitched/moved anywhere easily, built/rebuilt in one fifth of the cost of a permanent home on a solid concrete foundation. Have you ever thought of yourself that way? Biblical patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were rich by all means but were called Tent dwellers! Paul the apostle was a tent maker with no tent of his own, traveling from place to place sharing Gospel.

Yes, Jesus gave the parable of a house built on the 'rock' in Matthew 5. If the rock of the earth that Jesus used as a parable itself stands strong, how much more would we be when we are built on the 'Rock of ages'!

In this verse, Holy Spirit calls our bodies a 'house' and not 'home' meaning, this 'house' is only a means to an end (eternal home). We are sojourners towards to our eternal home in Christ Jesus which is also referred as 'Heaven'. Wherever HIS dwelling is, that is our Home!

Tent dwelling is not just a metaphor but a mindset. We love our homes and we are thankful for it. But, unless the presence of the Lord permeates every nook and corner, it is merely a 'house' of bricks, sheetrock and mortar but not a 'home'. A place doesn't become a home just because we dwell but truly a home only when we dwell with Jesus in there. If we are the house of God per the verse above, then Christ is the rightful owner of it/us. If we do not own our own bodies, then how could few temporal/borrowed bodies could own a dwelling? This is why why we read in Heb 3:4 Every house is built by someone but, HE who built all things is God'.

When we are built by God, when HIS dwelling is in us, when we dwell with HIS presence in a house, then it becomes a place we call 'Home'. Its HIS presence that matters. When we have this etched in our mind that all good and perfect things come from God and belongs to God including our homes and we who dwell in it. That in essence is the 'tent dwelling' mindset. Is there a 100% perfect home on this earth? Nope and that's why Jesus came and died for us to reconcile us with God and make our bodies HIS dwelling/home.

If our brick & mortar home on this earth itself is so beautiful, how much more gorgeous our mansion in heaven would be!!! This week, every time as you enter/leave your home, would tell 'Thank you Jesus, my Master/Owner'. Let us not be lost in the beauty of our homes here but envision, dream, long for the mansion Jesus is building for us in heaven with absolute confidence and rejoicing as this verse calls for.

Blessings for the day and week ahead!
