How do you read the Word?

Psalm 119:130 The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple

  • How often do you read the Word of God?

  • How much do you meditate what you read, beyond the morning devo or prayer time?

  • Have you compared rendering of a verse in different translations?

  • Have you researched root Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic word in a verse to understand the depth of its context and content?

  • How do you read - as a believer? as a minister? as a student? as a skeptic? as a lover?

Several translations use different words in place of 'unfolding' and 'simple'. Check it out.

Its not the Word in itself but the 'unfolding' of His Word. Another translation puts it as 'entrance' of His Word! Has it entered your life today? Has it unfolded and empowered you to discern and conquer things ahead? Or do you just shove it into your morning devotion time and never have time again to think about it until bed time?

Dearly beloved, if we believe 'Word' became flesh, it must enter, unfold and reveal things in our life. If the 'Word' that became flesh, Jesus Christ is alive and enthroned forever, His 'Word' is alive, powerful and need to be enthroned in our lives. God's Word did not come from earthly wisdom but it is divine Truth as Psalmist says in Psalm 119:89 Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. The Word that's settled in heaven, is the light that helps us discern every day life (Psalm 119:105).

We the New Covenant Christians for whom the Son of God Himself became the sacrificial offering, have an even brighter light, the life of Jesus. John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men, 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

When we are born again, we have His life in us that no darkness of this world can even comprehend, let alone compete with it. When we lovingly get deeper into His Word, we get deeper into the life of Jesus, the power, authority and command that Jesus had over the enemy and the world. We begin to learn, understand and live in the 'power of His Word' that sustains us (Hebrews 1:3). Such a deep relationship with Jesus is only possible through His Word as revealed by Holy Spirit.

The unbelieving Word might see Bible as yet another religious book. But to us it is life and it is the power that conquered and conquers darkness today and every day. Gospel is an aroma of death to those who reject it and an aroma of life to those who accept (2 Cor 2:16).

Bible is not a history book that just reveals the earthly past life of Jesus, but it is a living book that reveals the forever living God! When His Word enters our daily life, it unfolds a whole new understanding of not just Spiritual aspects but everything in life. That is why it is called the 'Living Word' that is relevant to every time, season and circumstances.

Have you understood, realized and exercised the power of His Word? Would you start today? May God's promise below come to fruition in your life.

Psalm 1:2-3 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Have a Blessed day and week ahead!
